The Cyprus Consumers' Association reported on Wednesday, December 18, that the cost of Christmas dinner has increased by almost 20 percent this year.
Prices vary significantly across cities, but tomatoes saw the largest price increase—by 131 percent. Cucumbers, as it turned out, rose in price by 113 percent, and the cost of meat increased by about 20 percent.
A study conducted by the association on December 9 and 17 showed that the largest price declines were observed for Merlin oranges and onions, down 17 and 15 percent respectively.
The association reviewed 35 food and drink items in different price ranges: high-end, mid-range and cheapest, in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos.
A luxurious Christmas dinner for a family of four in Nicosia will cost €212, and for a family of six €303. This is 11.79% more than last year.
In Limassol, Christmas dinner costs €198 for a family of four and €281 for a family of six. As for Paphos, a luxurious Christmas dinner costs €215 for a family of four and €308 for a family of six.
The more budget-friendly option, including 19 of the 35 dishes, costs an average of €123 for a family of four and €157 for a family of six. This is 19.22 percent more than last year, the association said.
In Limassol, costs for a family of four are €121 and €157 for a family of six. In Paphos these figures are €122 and €158 respectively.
For the most cost-effective Christmas dinner, including 11 of the 35 courses, Nicosia residents should spend €31 for four and €44 for six. This is 14.83% more than in 2023.
In Limassol this figure is 33 and 48 euros respectively, while in Paphos it averages 34 and 51 euros.
